Enforcing compliance with the new data protection laws
Data Protection legislations kept on evolving with the coming into force of the Data Protection Act (DPA) 2017 in Mauritius and the General Data Protection Regulation in the European Union (EU). As such, companies in Mauritius handling personal data of data subjects, in Mauritius and those personal data of data subject located in the EU, have an obligation to implement appropriate safeguards with regard to these data. Data subjects themselves have been provided with enhanced rights to give them control back on their personal information. On top of all this, under the EU GDPR, penalties have reached new heights. This course will therefore serve the purpose of providing an overview of both legislations, with emphasis on legal obligations imposed on controllers and processors, rights of data subjects and practical solutions to ensure having an appropriate data protection framework.
